Wooden sword of Paris

Player A stands facing the group, holding an imaginary giant sword. Player A can make six different moves with the sword and the group has six corresponding moves to avoid the sword.

  1. Across the heads - group ducks down
  2. Across the feet - group jumps in the air
  3. Diagonal slash left - group lunges to the opposite side
  4. Diagonal slash right - group lunges to the opposite side
  5. Straight slash down - group splits, leaning away from slash
  6. Thrust to center - group hops back

The goal is for Player A and the group to work in concert so that each slash and avoidance happens smoothly and accurately.

Variations

Pairs – Players work in pairs, one slashing and the other dodging.

Teams – There are two teams, each with a leader. Each team responds to the opposite leader's strokes.

Notes

  • Player A uses large sweeping moves so the group can see what’s coming.
  • Change up who is holding the sword a few times.
