SlidePlayer is a program that serves as a digital host, communicating with the audience through projected text. Through the use of slides, the audience is educated about how to play, volunteers are invited to participate, scenes are introduced, and promotional information is shared at the start and end of the show.
The reason SlidePlayer was developed is because, when interactive vignettes were first presented in New York City, a live performer hosted the show giving the audience the expectation that what they were seeing similar to improv comedy. As a result, spects tried to be funny and audiences were confused by dramatic scenes. When SlidePlayer replaced the live host, audiences didn’t know what to expect, which placed them in a far more receptive state to whatever the tone of show might be.
When you’re presenting interactive vignettes, SlidePlayer can be a useful way to avoid audience preconceptions while also creating an air of mystery and anticipation.
