Questions to statements

Working in pairs, one player asks a question and the other player reframes the question as a statement. Alternate who gives the question and who transforms it into a statement.

“Who was that woman you were with?” “I saw you with your mother last night.”

Variations

Solo – Working alone, the player asks a question, then reframes it as a statement.

Notes

  • This exercise helps players practice establishing context through statements.
  • Both players are speaking from one character’s perspective.
  • To frame questions as statements, it may be necessary to make assumptions.
  • If the statement feels odd on its own, follow it up with a reason the statement was made. (E.g., “What time is it?” could be converted into, “It’s midnight.” This feels less arbitrary when followed up with, “Time to perform the ceremony.”)
