When spects begin to play, they need you to appear confident so they can become confident themselves. A major factor is the way you speak. Even if you’re playing low physical status, while spects are building their confidence, speak with assurance. Confident speech is also important when playing experts.

Athletes, musicians, singers, and dancers all warm up. So do inter-actors. A warm-up prepares your mind and body before you practice alone, train with others, or perform with an audience.

Exercises

While making a neutral sound, stretch the face and mouth as big as possible. Then scrunch it down as small as possible. Continue to alternate between being expansive and being compressed.

Exercises

With your lips loosely together, blow through them, making a “motorboat” sound. Start with air, then add vocal sound.

Exercises

Open the mouth as wide as possible. Run the tongue around the circumference of the lips in one direction, then in the other direction.

Exercises

Below are some tongue twisters that can be used to warm up vocal articulation. These (and more) can be found in the Gimme Getter app.

Exercises

Clasp the hands together in front of the chest. Vigorously shake the hands forward and back so that it causes the entire torso to shake. Keeping the throat and face relaxed, release a sound that shakes with the body.

Exercises

Take a deep breath and sigh from a high pitch down to a low pitch, then slide back up to a high pitch. Take another deep breath and repeat the process.

Exercises

Begin by wiggling your thumbs. Let the wiggle gradually expand until your entire body is wiggling. Then let the wiggle gradually retreat back until only the thumbs are wiggling. Then be still.
